Annual Berkshire Lantern Walk

Jul 6, 2017 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm UTC-4

Take a stroll into the summer night during the annual Berkshire Lantern Walk. Meet at the Lunder Center at Stone Hill, create or pick up a lantern, and enjoy a walk on the Pasture Trail to Thomas Schütte’s Crystal.

Along the path, members of the New England Puppet Intensive will present a hill-side performance with abstract, illuminated-objects inspired by the exhibition of As in Nature: Helen Frankenthaler Paintings — a visual spectacle reflecting the sense of color, landscape and beauty of Frankenthaler’s work. Local musicians Amrita Lash and Karl Mullen will provide an improvised score for the performance.

In preparation for the walk, attend a lantern building workshop on July 5th, from 1 to 4 pm at the Clark. Reed and bamboo materials will be provided. Bring your own jar and transform it into an illuminated sculpture, or make a simple lantern from 8 to 9 pm the night of the event.

The Berkshire Lantern Walk is a celebration of the summer night, the natural world, artistic expression, and neighbors. This is a community collaboration between The Clark Art Institute and The New England Puppet Intensive.

Free and open to the public.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Cultural Council of Northern Berkshire, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
